Setting The Pirate Mood!
Upon arrival bring the kids into the mood by giving them these:
1) Eye patch
2) Draw a beard / mustache with eye liner or face paint
3) Head Wrap or Pirate Hat
Pirate head wraps are cheap and easy to make! Go to your favorite fabric store and have them cut a yard of material (I like red, or red and white striped!) into 4 strips so you have 4 pirate rags 9 inches by 36 inches. Wrap around their heads and tie in overhand knots! The fabric should cost about $2.50 a yard.
4) Downloadable, FREE, treasure maps you can customize. Be vague with the directions to make the search last longer!
5) Download the free Pirate Certificates, and write each child’s name on one.
6) Download the FREE Pirate Jokes page and print one out for each child. We recommend that you include this with the invitation to help create excitement and set the fun mood for the party! If not, give them to the children in their goody bags.
7) Download and print out the FREE Pirate Dictionary for each child. Even if they are too young to read, their parents will love helping them! We recommend that you include this with the invitation so they can learn a bit of pirate talk BEFORE the party. This will help create excitement and set the fun mood for the party!
8) You and your child can make “Pirate hooks” and “Pirate belts and buckles” for each guest, and customize them as you wish. There are FREE instructions and templates! Of course, you can do this as a craft project at the party, too! Captain Kid recommends, from lots of experience, NOT to make swords!
* Corrugated cardboard
* Foil
* Spray glue
* X-Acto knife
* Shoe polish
* Large plastic cup
a) Print the template and cut out the shapes. Trace them onto the cardboard and cut them out. Lay down a piece of foil, matte side down, and spray with glue. Let it sit for at least five minutes. Lay the cardboard shape onto the foil and trace around the shape with the knife, leaving some foil to fold over the edges. Repeat on the opposite side.
b) To finish the hook, choose a plastic cup that fits comfortably over your hand. Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup with the X-Acto knife. Insert the hook through the slit, slide the cup over your hand, and hold the hook from the inside to keep it in place. You can also use the same technique to fashion a sword. Faux-leather or black electrical tape makes a perfect handle.
